The AACN Beacon Award, a unit-based award, provides a road map and tools to assist individual units on their path to excellence. Radiologic and imaging units are eligible and have received the award previously. The Beacon Award handbook describes how the journey begins by implementing evidence-based processes, procedures, and systems to support excellence, remove barriers, and enhance patient outcomes. By describing unit processes and presenting outcome measures, the unit can showcase the successes achieved. Collaboration of the unit with key stakeholders is paramount to select meaningful measures of outcomes specific to the patient population served as well as aligning examples of work to the questions in the application. This presentation will provide an overview of the process, the resources available to support units and share the experience of an award-winning IR unit. Additional information about assessing eligibility, readiness to apply, and the AACN Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool will be provided.
